Excellent patternI made this in a plain linen as a wearable muslin, and it's really lovely. I did View B, but I lengthened the short sleeves and added some pin tucks, and I love the way it came out. I am going to make it again in a plaid linen, probably trying a bias cut. This dress is a nice pairing with linen, where I struggle with wanting a little bit of shape to my dress, but with linen, many of the patterns are more tent-like. I have all types, of course, because linen is my favorite summer fabric, but this dress is versatile and can be worn at work or casually. Highly recommend! Was this helpful?New favorite pattern!I’ve had this pattern on my wishlist for a while now, and I am super happy with it! It fit great with minimal adjustments. I look forward to making another one! The pattern was straightforward and simple to use. Sizing was spot on for me.2 of 2 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?Love this patternI had to make some adjustments after making a muslin on darts and shoulders, but after the fit is great and I love the end result. The dress fits well and it is very comfortable. As always, the instruction is excellent, there is always something new to learn from O+S's pattern.3 of 3 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?Satisfied.Fantastic pattern, well explained.1 of 1 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?Great dress and patternBought this a few weeks ago and finished my first dress. The core design of this pattern is wonderful. I made no changes to the pattern, used the FBA instructions, and made a muslin. Perfect fitting multi-purpose dress. I'm already planning another summer version and a fall/winter version. One of the many things I love is that it is easy to envision my own variations to the neck line and sleeves. Thank you Oliver and S for making my first digital pattern experience a good one!10 of 10 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?Love this dressI made this pattern almost identical to the cover photo in a navy fabric. It is gorgeous. I'm lazy and never make a muslin, preferring to fit during construction. That means that the dress is a bit too loose but I can't do anything about it due to the side zipper. Next time I will move the zipper to the back. This is probably my 3rd or 4th Oliver + S pattern. The instructions are second to none and the quality of the pattern is excellent. Looking forward to making this again without the collar and in a print.7 of 7 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?Lovely fitI just completed my first Bistro dress. Having made plenty of clothes from oliver + s, I was pleased to find the instructions just as clear and detailed. I did have to adjust the darts but otherwise the fit is great. My only problem was that the armholes are a bit snug and the sleeves (short-sleeved version) are slightly too tight, so I will have to adjust the armhole for my next version. But I definitely plan to make this again!4 of 4 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?Fantastic patternThe Bistro dress is my first Liesl pattern. The pattern is clearly made by someone that knows have to make patterns. I bought the Bistro dress pattern after having struggled to adjust and fit several fitted bodice dress patterns. The Bistro dress pattern was a relief. I made my dress in a tiny dog tooth linen from Merchant and Mills called Frontier Blue and the result was over all expectations. I have already started on my second Bistro dress and will definitely try other patterns. The detailed instructions for inserting the invisible zipper resulted in a truly invisible zipper on the first attempt. A very satisfying project. Highly recommended pattern.10 of 10 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?Nice dress! This turned out well for a first try! I carefully did the full bust adjustment as detailed in the pattern and am pleased. I find it to be more "fitted" than semi-fitted even though I carefully chose the size recommended. My dress is made from a lighter weight stretch denim. I moved the zipper to the back and found that I didn't need the belt to achieve a fitted look. I will make this again!!5 of 5 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful? My favourite dressI love this pattern. It is so versatile. Ive made it twice with short sleeves and no collar. Next time I am doing the collar. It's so much fun dreaming up more projects when the pattern is so easy to follow and fits so well. Thank you.4 of 4 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?Fantastic, reliable, beautiful pattern.Fantastic pattern. My first Liesl pattern but I was pretty sure I could trust it as a blog follower... I wasn't wrong. I followed the carefully written instructions and took it step by step (though some of the techniques were new to me) and it worked out perfectly. On the basis of this, I would buy and rely on other patterns for future garments. Totally reliable, fantastic guidance for learners and above all a beautiful dress I'm really proud of that looks great.6 of 6 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?A great smart-casual dressThis was my first adult Oliver & S/Liesl & S pattern and it was well worth the time to put together the PDF! It sewed up very quickly, the instructions were great and I have had lots of compliments in the office :-).3 of 3 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful?Elegant yet casualIm giving this pattern 4 stars only because I hate putting in zippers. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. I used couture techniques to create my dress in a medium weight linen and could not be happier. I really feel Liesl is spot on with this design, it is both timeless and versatile. I can move from work to dinner effortlessly. Time well spent in creating my dress and could not be happier8 of 8 customers found this helpful. Was this helpful? From the Discussion Forums
